It is always a challenge to find something new to do on an adventure holiday around Australia, not because there was nothing to choose from but more because we had done so much already. So this time we decided to go into Mackay for their fabulous weather and white sandy beaches. It would be a 4WD holiday where we traveled around from camp site to camp site in search of different things to see and places to go.
The first thing to do of course was to hire a 4WD campervan from the people at car hire Mackay airport so that we did not have to drive our own all the way from Ballarat in Victoria. So I booked online using their easy to follow web site and within a few minutes I had a confirmation e-mail with my reference number on it and the date and time for pick up. The date and time was specified by me but it was a handy reminder of what time the company was expecting us.
The holiday was great, just traveling around without any particular plan to follow. We headed south to north and visited some amazing scenery filled with animals and plant life that I had never seen before in all my travels. I discovered a variety of possum that I had never uncounted and seen a emu for the first time that wasn’t in a zoo. There were rock pools and secluded picnic spots, surf beaches and native rainforests to explore. It was a unique experience and one to remember but the easiest part of the journey was knowing that if the vehicle we hired ran into any trouble we had 24 hour road side assistance to put our mind at ease. This solid fact made traveling much less of a hassle and freed my mind to concentrate on the good things in life.
