Never for one minute did I expect to wind up living in a little town like Mackay but now that I have been here for a while I see that it is just like any other beach town but it is just out of the way of the main cities. This was the appeal that interested me the most, the idea of getting out of the smog filled city and finding a comfortable out of the way place where I could see the ocean and do my paintings.
Mackay was the perfect spot to find with complete waterfront access with all the water activities that most beach towns have to offer. There is a tropical rain forest not far away which is a great place to take a nature hike or go looking for wildlife. After several years of this lifestyle I will never want to go back to the rampage of the big towns. Life is meant to be taken slowly and enjoyed to the utmost.

Safety is a key issue when taking on an adventure across the outback because desserts can be a dangerous place to encounter. It is thought to be a myth that people drown in the desert at night but this myth is actually true because people look for the softest ground which has the least rocks and smoothest surfaces. The problem here is that the smooth surfaces are usually dry creek or river beds and if it rains during the night they flood sweeping away everything that lies in its path. So that myth is actually true and is just one of the dangers that are hidden in outback adventures.
Car hire Mackay airport can help you to minimize the risks of the outback by providing each vehicle with essential and additional accessories. First aid kits come as standard accessories in the 4WD vehicles in case of emergencies. You can also ask for additional jerry cans in case you run out of fuel. Water is another problem when you run out so ask the professional agents where the best place is to stock up on water and food before you head out on your tour. It is always a challenge to find something new to do on an adventure holiday around Australia, not because there was nothing to choose from but more because we had done so much already. So this time we decided to go into Mackay for their fabulous weather and white sandy beaches. It would be a 4WD holiday where we traveled around from camp site to camp site in search of different things to see and places to go.
The first thing to do of course was to hire a 4WD campervan from the people at car hire Mackay airport so that we did not have to drive our own all the way from Ballarat in Victoria. So I booked online using their easy to follow web site and within a few minutes I had a confirmation e-mail with my reference number on it and the date and time for pick up. The date and time was specified by me but it was a handy reminder of what time the company was expecting us.
The holiday was great, just traveling around without any particular plan to follow. We headed south to north and visited some amazing scenery filled with animals and plant life that I had never seen before in all my travels. I discovered a variety of possum that I had never uncounted and seen a emu for the first time that wasn’t in a zoo. There were rock pools and secluded picnic spots, surf beaches and native rainforests to explore. It was a unique experience and one to remember but the easiest part of the journey was knowing that if the vehicle we hired ran into any trouble we had 24 hour road side assistance to put our mind at ease. This solid fact made traveling much less of a hassle and freed my mind to concentrate on the good things in life.
